David Bassuk is a theatre director, immersive experience designer, and World Architect. His work explores how ideas become worlds that people can enter, shape, and carry forward. He works across performance, learning, immersive experience, and organizational practice, designing the conditions through which people can encounter one another, make choices, and create meaning together.

Bassuk came to this work through theatre. Decades of directing taught him that meaning is not carried by language alone: it is made through bodies in space, the relationships between them, and the rhythm, atmosphere, and permissions that surround them. This understanding is the foundation of his work in Spatial Narrative, a practice that considers space not as a neutral setting but as an active force in what people notice, imagine, remember, and do.

Spatial Narrative begins with a simple proposition: space helps make meaning. It attends to the physical conditions of a place, the social relationships it produces, the imagined worlds people bring into it, and the affective atmosphere that moves between them. It asks what an environment reveals, restricts, invites, or transforms. Bassuk applies this approach to performance, experience design, teaching, writing, and collaborative projects, always returning to questions of entry, participation, and consequence: How does someone enter this world? What becomes possible inside it? What might change because they were there?

His practice connects research with making. He has worked with performers, interaction designers, creative technologists, educators, and organizational leaders on projects ranging from intimate workshops to large public experiences. Whether shaping a performance, an immersive learning environment, or a participatory event, he is interested in the structures that allow a group to move from attention to imagination, and from imagination to shared responsibility.

Through Future Readiness Lab, Bassuk brings this spatial and performative approach into organizations, helping leaders rehearse uncertainty, question familiar assumptions, and test possible futures before change becomes crisis. As a consultant in World Architecture, he works with authors, founders, educators, and organizations whose ideas have outgrown a single project or platform. He helps them identify the central question connecting their work and create forms through which it can grow as shared practice.

Bassuk is Professor Emeritus of Theatre and former Dean of the School of Theatre Arts and Film at Purchase College, SUNY. He is co-founder and Creative Director of White Horse Immersive in Hangzhou, an Associate Artist with the David Glass Ensemble, and a Fulbright Scholar in Austria. His international work includes projects with Alibaba, Tencent, Eden Project Qingdao, MIAT in Milan, and the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq.
